The primary goal of this course is to investigate how digital networks address challenges of our society, but also create new ones. The first half of the semester includes a historical overview of the internet’s development. We study how knowledge explosion and information sharing/organization were already pressing problems before the invention of digital networks. We also discuss how distinct groups contributed to the creation of the internet. The second part of the semester approaches current social issues, such as digital privacy, civic engagement, digital divide, etc.

Public Speaking (COM 110)

This course is an introduction to public speaking skills. It is designed to help students improve their research abilities, topic selection, speech organization, and speech delivery. Also,  the course nurtures their ability to become audience members who can listen well to analyze and evaluate speech presentations.
